Extraordinary enthusiasm from fans in more than 200 countries indicates that the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is oversubscribed by approximately 30 times the number of tickets available.

Ticket Demand Breaks Records

More than 150 million ticket requests have been submitted by fans from over 200 countries, underscoring the global reach of the tournament as reported by FIFA.

Based on verified individual credit card entries, the current ticket sales phase shows that the competition is oversubscribed by more than 30 times, reflecting interest that far exceeds ticket availability from the earliest stage.

Since the sales phase opened on 11 December, the level of interest generated has surpassed every previous World Cup edition, marking a new record in the history of ticket sales for the global football tournament.

Demand Described as Extraordinary

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the response as clear evidence of the universal appeal of football.

He emphasized that the sheer volume of requests in the first two weeks demonstrates how strongly the sport resonates worldwide, while also providing an early indication of what FIFA believes will be the most inclusive and wide-reaching World Cup in history.

In an official press release, Infantino stated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the biggest and most inclusive show on Earth, with more than 150 million tickets requested in just the first 15 days, making this edition oversubscribed by 30 times.

According to him, this represents tangible proof of the extraordinary enthusiasm of fans in more than 200 countries.

He also added that the overwhelming response from passionate supporters reflects how deeply football is loved globally, and confirms that North America will witness history as the world comes together in a celebration of unity and the very best quality of football.

A Historic Tournament

The scale of demand places the 2026 World Cup in an exceptionally rare category, as the level of interest has already exceeded several times the cumulative total attendance of all World Cup matches since 1930.

With an expanded format of 48 teams, 104 matches, and 16 host cities spread across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, this edition represents a major evolution in the structure of the competition and the global reach of the World Cup.

Draw Period Still Ongoing

The ticket sales phase through the Random Selection Draw system will remain open until 13 January, with all valid applications having an equal chance regardless of the time of submission.

For fans who are unsuccessful at this stage, further opportunities will be available in subsequent sales phases, as additional tickets are released ahead of the tournament’s opening match scheduled to take place on 11 June.
